The Ashlynn Distillery mural was completed by the Tony Napoli Mural Arts crew, consisting of Tony, myself, and seven other main artists. Tony designed the mural for the client, and we all helped to make edits and additions along the way. All painting was done on site on the building's wall, made possible by the use of self-operated scissor lifts.
In addition to overall design edits, doing research for historical accuracy, and mixing accurate paint colors, I mainly focused on the black horse's head. I painted the head to create a 3D effect so that it looks like it is lifting up off the wall and toward the viewer-- one of the key features to draw viewers in.
The hardest obstacle to overcome was the summer heat and the poor air quality from the Canadian wildfires. To combat this I wore a mask most days, made sure we all had access to clean drinking water, and we worked in the afternoon and evening to avoid full sun exposure. I also made sure to clean up any debris we may have created, which helped to keep away insects and promote a healthier work environment.
In the end, this massive mural is the biggest project our crew has taken on so far, and our teamwork and ability to adapt to different situations led to a beautiful mural for very happy clients.
