OVERVIEW
The Wellington West BIA invited me to create a series of illustrations for public display across electric service boxes in Ottawa’s Wellington West and Hintonburg neighbourhoods. The goal was to visually reflect the area’s evolving identity while celebrating its local culture. These boxes sit in the heart of one of the city’s most dynamic and creative districts, making them the perfect canvas for storytelling through art.
CONCEPT & INSPIRATION
Wellington West is a layered space—equal parts hip, historic, and full of character. I wanted the visuals to feel just as eclectic. Inspired by local storefronts, cafés, bakeries, studios, and the everyday people who shape the neighbourhood, I crafted a visual language that balances charm and clarity. The goal was not just to beautify the space but to amplify its personality.
ILLUSTRATION & SYMBOLISM
I began by walking the area, talking to shop owners, and documenting the textures and quirks that make the neighbourhood feel alive. Each box tells a different story—whether it’s about small business pride, community spirit, or the creative undercurrent that runs through the streets. The illustrations use a playful, colorful style designed to feel approachable and uplifting, echoing the artistic energy already present in the district.
LAUNCH
The full series will be installed and revealed in Spring 2025. This project marks a special moment in my public art journey—bringing illustration into the urban landscape in a way that feels both rooted and resonant.
