OVERVIEW
Day Dreams is a five-piece artistic collaboration between visual artist Jesús Rivera and luxury menswear brand Hive & Colony, created for their Spring 2025 collection as part of the Art of the Senses initiative. Rivera was invited to design the inner linings of a limited-edition capsule of bespoke jackets, transforming the inner space of each garment into a deeply personal and symbolic canvas.
CONCEPT & INSPIRATION
Rooted in Rivera’s long standing exploration of identity, and the invisible human experience, the project reimagines the jacket as a metaphor for consciousness. Each lining was conceptualized to reflect layered dimensions of the self:
- The External side as the public-facing shield.
The front interior as the first step into intimacy, we give some curated intimacy, to do that you have to do some effort, two movements only to show the private part of yourself that is not that compromising
- The back lining as the raw, unfiltered core of the identity, to be able to show this side you need to take off the shield or flip it around leaving you vulnerable
- The empty spaces The arms have no illustration as a symbol of movement and future possibility, empty space to keep illustrating your new experiences, to continue daydreaming.
These themes guided the design of each lining, using emotional storytelling and visual symbolism to reflect the inner world of the wearer.
A CAREER TURNING POINT: EMBRACING COLOUR
Day Dreams marked a pivotal transformation in Rivera’s practice. After years of working almost exclusively in black and white, this project became his first full exploration of colour. Inspired by the energy of spring, and the emotional tone of Hive & Colony’s tailoring, Rivera used colour not only as an aesthetic tool, but as a core narrative language. This shift permanently expanded the scope of his work. Colour has since become central to his visual identity.
ILLUSTRATION & SYMBOLISM
Rivera created five original digital illustrations, each designed to exist at the intersection of storytelling and functional fashion. His visual style blends surreal symbolism, bold pop-art energy, and freehand linework with geometric structure.
Each lining was built to interact with the jacket’s form and each jacket designed in function of the illustrations, designed with careful attention to fabric scale, symmetry, and interior panel geography.
COLLAGE & CAMPAIGN WORK
Rivera also led the creation of the campaign visuals. He shot a series of original photos in New York City and layered them with elements from the jacket illustrations, creating bold digital collages that reflect the urban rhythm and conceptual core of the project. These visuals were used across promotional materials and digital storytelling, along with short-form video pieces that highlight the moment of revealing the lining—a metaphor for emotional exposure.
LAUNCH
The collection debuted in March 2025 at Hive & Colony - Soho location with a solo exhibition. A limited edition of 100 linings was made available, positioning each piece as a wearable, collectible artwork.
