Columbia Journalism Review: 60th Anniversary Special Issue

Columbia Journalism Review is a quarterly magazine which leads, critiques, and supports the rapidly changing field of American journalism. Since its founding in 1961, Columbia Journalism Review has been an essential leader in its field, not only for journalists but countless other members in communications, technology, and academia.

With bold and versatile templates, Columbia Journalism Review uses flexible design to feature a wide variety of ideas and subjects, from column- to feature-length writing and sidebars to illustrations, photography and infographics.

For its 60th anniversary, the editors at Columbia Journalism Review teamed up with the designers at Point Five to create a special issue of CJR, and published a series of the magazine's most influential and popular articles. Covering historical events from the last 60 years as well as opinion pieces and analyses, this issue of Columbia Journalism Review touches on watershed events in journalism that remain prescient and relevant to today.

Playing off the foundations of CJR's established magazine design, I worked with my team members at Point Five to reimagine this issue as a kind of curated historical archive, using the magazine's colors, logo and typefaces with a new grid and page size.
