The first ETC*MA exhibition in Amsterdam took over an entire 5-story grachtenpand on the Singel, the city’s central canal. In 2010, and within the 2-year gap which the Stedelijk Museum left behind in its absence, “The solution to nothing” was an artistic intervention on a city-wide scale, implicating itself in a topical conversation around the use of contemporary art while confronting head-on the notion of the museum as a monolithic, authority and historically bound institution.
A follow up project happened in the old GAK-gebouw in 2013, "The problem of everything." taking on a failed Modernist mega-complex as its context, and pointing at problems of artistic economy, architecture, urban planning, and more specifically how art is used and abused within political processes of renewal and gentrification.
