The Story of #SaveSYEP

Teens Take Charge student activists led the #SaveSYEP campaign during the Spring and early Summer of 2020. During this campaign, students from HERE to HERE and Teens Take Charge educated policymakers and community members on the value of SYEP and emboldened them to push back against the cancellation of the program. As a result of their efforts, 35,000 paid summer internship opportunities were restored for NYC high school students.

The project was designed to capture and document the important work led by the students through a visual storybook (will include: screenshots of group chats, emails, and texts, social media posts; traditional media articles and images; and images of events). As the designer, I was responsible for developing the art direction of the magazine because Teens Take Charge had loose visual brand guidelines and HERE to HERE was the supporting organization producing the work.
