Space Faring

Print, digital, and packaging for a space-themed film festival for the British Film Institute.

Focusing on the technological aspects of space travel, and bearing in mind Paul Virilio’s concept of technology constituting the “geometrization of the earth” I created a geometric system for the most of the typography, where letterforms and graphic elements all had to conform to a specific grid. I chose colors that referenced the earth while still looking cold and inorganic.

For the typesetting of the brochure and the illustrations, I wanted to also consider the anxiety associated with space travel and being trapped in space, so I tried to create a visual sense of tension and off-balance while still looking technological and employing straight lines and geometric shapes.
